MONGOLIA VISIT

In 2004 I organised a visit to Mongolia to visit ger makers and learn more about the differences between the Mongolian and Kyrgyz style of yurt and ger.  The specialist makers were less easy to find than in Kyrgyzstan despite the determined efforts of my interpreter Hishgue Tumurbaatur but the prevalence of the factory produced ger was interesting in its own right and after some extensive travelling we did meet some very fine ger makers. Despite a steady migration of people from countryside to city, nomadic culture and ger dwelling is still deeply ingrained in the Mongolian way of life. These are a few of the pictures from that visit.
